OSYRON – Video „Battle Of The Thames“ – english

History
should teach us something. Unfortunately, it seems that we haven’t learned much from it so far, when I look at the current state of the world. All the better if bands like OSYRON, for example, as a part of our cultural world, remind us humans of certain things in a musical way.
OSYRON (Facebook) have taken today’s Remembrance Day in Canada as an opportunity to release a video of „Battle Of The Thames“. The song is about the war of independence against the Americans, which began in 1812. OSYRON proved on their last output „Foundations“ (review here), that history lessons don’t have to be boring. High-End-Progressive-Metal awaits you with OSYRON, who are a megasympathetic band by the way, where humor is also very important (see here). But today they dedicate themselves to a serious topic.
`metal-heads.de´
for sure also stands for music and culture beyond German borders. We are one world! Regardless of our origin and culture, we should stand up for ourselves as one, even if extreme spinners and power-hungry despots want to torpedo and prevent this with all means.
Extremes in social, political and also religious coexistence have never been and will never be a fertile ground for peace and progress, no matter what background they have and on whatever deceptive basis they (want to) be founded.
Tecumseh

Fortunately, history and the present teach us that there are always heroes who work for peace and cohesion. One of them was Tecumseh, a native of Canada and a chief. He gave his life for the dream of freedom, cohesion and peace. OSYRON have captured this theme in an epic, soulful ballad and honor this on the remembrance day of the war that began in 1812.
OSYRON have decided to honor all the men and women who sacrificed their lives for peace and independence in the past. For this purpose OSYRON have written the epic ballad „Battel Of The Thames“. On today’s national remembrance day in Canada they release a video for their song. A restrained atmospheric video, which does justice to the theme.
War of Independence 1812
It was a decisive battle. America declared war on Canada. Canada was under British rule at that time. The Native Americans of Canada were given no choice. They were drawn into the war. And it is exactly this role in the history of war that the song „Battle Of The Thames“ is about. The visionary Tecumseh was a respected chief of the Shawnee tribe. His dream was to unite all tribes of the First Nations in order to finally establish a mutually just peace with the white colonists. Two seemingly unattainable goals, but which he pursued with determination and iron will.
He allied himself with the British against the Americans, who wanted to conquer the country by force. In the end he was unfortunately abandoned by the British army in the „Battle Of The Thames“ and the First Nations suffered a devastating defeat. Tecumseh lost his life in this battle of 1813. His courageous determination is still legendary today and should encourage us to stand up for peace and cohesion in the world despite the tragic outcome. As a result, a peace treaty between America and Canada was finally signed in 1814.
Interview with singer Reed

MH: How is the day normally celebrated or honored by Canadians?
REED: All schools have assemblies and pay respects through ceremonies. People are encouraged to wear poppies over their hearts (pinned to their jackets and clothing attire). We also have a big ceremony in the capital of the country, that is live on national television for everyone to watch.
MH: Are there big celebrations?
REED: No celebrations, it is a quiet day and a day to pay respect. We have a few traditions and we would rather listen, remain silent and honour the brave men and women, that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our rights and freedoms.
MH: How does it work with COVID-19 instead?
REED: To be honest we are not sure. Normally there are many services/ceremonies taken place around the country with large groups of people. Due to the pandemic, we can only assume there will be televised and radio broadcasted events throughout the day people can tune into.
COVID-19 in Canada
MH: In Europe the situation is very bad at the moment. How is the situation in Canada?
REED: Some provinces are doing better than others. The ones that are doing well seem to carry on with almost complete normalcy. Others however, like Ontario or even our own province of Alberta are struggling and have taken more serious precautions.
Canada’s Traditions
MH: What other important celebration days are there in Canada?
REED: We are a very diverse country with many backgrounds, so not everyone celebrates everything. However, most of the country loves to celebrate St. Patricks Day, Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and either Gold Medal hockey games or the World Junior Championship of Hockey.
MH: How has the Canadian-American relationship developed?
REED: Our relationship is unique and a long historic one. Our biggest allie and trading partner, we have the longest land border and unprotected border in the world. Most Canadians like to separate ourselves from Americans and identify as our own culture and people. America does have a strong influence on Canadian culture though due to media and their longstanding influence on the global stage.
Future plans and support of the fans
MH: When can the fans expect new songs from OSYRON?
REED: Hopefully late next year! We have begun writing and throwing ideas around. We are still pushing to promote „Foundations“ until the new year! So be patient, and keep blasting those tunes! We will be back with more music very soon!
MH: How about a cover of a famous Christmas song after the great work on „Queen Of The Reich“? (Link)
REED: We want to do more fun covers on well known songs. If people are starving for more of those kind of videos and covers (including Christmas songs), then we will have no problem pumping out a few over the holidays! So have the people let us know!
If you want to know more about OSYRON, we recommend the big interview that you can find here. There you will learn a lot more, also about not so serious topics.
