BETTY SUE & THE HOT DOTS – „A Coffee & A Cigarette“ – Review

in seiner ursprünglichen Form bezaubern uns BETTY SUE & THE HOT DOTS (Facebook ) auf ihrem Album „A Coffee & A Cigarette“, welches am 26.02.2021 erscheinen wird. Es ist bleileibe kein Metal, aber ich hatte und habe mit diesem Album einen Riesenspaß. Es macht einfach Laune und Stimmung. Die Musik hat wahrlich nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren.

Heiße Nummer

Die Musik reißt Euch schon mit den ersten Noten einfach mit und lässt Euch für 34 Minuten auch nicht mehr los. Da zucken die Gliedmaßen im feurigen Takt. Die freche Stimme von Sängerin Betty, die auch mal sexy verrucht rüberkommt, passt hervorragend zu dem Sound. Ihre männlichen instrumentalen Begleiter machen einen super Job und vollenden das Gesamtbild. Es wird schön eingeheizt. Da brennt die Luft, die Sohlen glühen und das Parkett fängt Feuer. Somit sei Euch erst mal direkt das Video von dem Song „Try To Forget You“ ans Herz gelegt. Wer danach direkt das Lesen der Review abbricht, um sich den Song wieder und wieder anzuhören, dem kann ich es nicht verübeln. Ist ja auch einfach zu schön.

Cool und spritzig

Okay, ein bisschen was würde ich noch für diejenigen schreiben, die das Review doch noch bis zum Ende lesen möchten . Es sind 12 Songs voller Coolness und Spritzigkeit, die einen nicht kalt lassen. Ganz im Gegenteil. Sie lassen das Rock´n Roll Herz ausflippen und vor Happiness auf und ab hüpfen. Da macht auch der lässige Song „If I Go To Hell“ keine Ausnahme, der für mich mit einer geheimnisvollen Atmosphäre wie aus einem düsteren Western auftrumpft. Diese dunkle verführerische Stimme mit den tiefen instrumentalen Vibes ist einfach genial. Dazu dann noch das coole Gitarrensolo. Phänomenal! Es ist der

pure authentische Sound,

der es vermag, ganz ohne Schnickschnack den Hörer zu fesseln. Allein dieser gewaltige Kontrabass ist nicht nur ein optischer Hingucker, sondern verzaubert mit seinem ganz eigenen unverwechselbaren Klang. Die Schwingungen gehen einfach durch und durch. Gitarre und Schlagzeug werden ebenfalls vortrefflich bedient und sorgen für Stimmung. und vervollkommnen den typischen mitreißenden Rockabilly-Sound. (Ich könnte mir allerdings zusätzlich hier und da noch den Einsatz von Bläsern (z.B. Saxophon) vorstellen. Aber das nur als kleine Randbemerkung und Anregung meinerseits.)

Glanzpunkte

gibt es viele auf dem Album, wobei acht eigene Songs und vier Coverversionen das Set ausmachen. Der Band gelingt es sich kreativ auszutoben und den Songs eine Seele einzuhauchen. Jeder Song hat seinen eigenen Charme. Die meisten Songs sind flott, manche noch flotter und auch eine coole freche Ballade in Form von „The Girl You´re Dreaming Of“ hat sich eingeschlichen und schmeichelt sich lässig in die Ohren.

Und mit dem Song „Dance“, einem meiner Lieblinge auf dem Album, wurde ich sogar sofort an ZZ TOP mit ihrem Song „La Crange“ erinnert. Eine Wahninns-Abgeh-Nummer, die auch mit einem echt geil geslappten Bass-Solo begeistert.

Fazit

BETTY SUE & THE HOT DOTS liefern ein Rock´n Roll-Feuerwerk ab, dass die Hütte brennen und Euer Herz mit einem Dauergrinsen auf und ab hüpfen lässt. Die Musik ist auf jeden Fall keine entkoffeinierte Kaffeebrühe, sondern heißer Espresso. In der Musik steckt Energie ohne Ende, wobei niemand still sitzen bleibt. Ich jedenfalls werde von der Musik mitgerissen und bin total hin und weg. Ich bin sehr gespannt, was uns diese Band mit dem Potential noch für tolle Songs bescheren wird.

in its original form BETTY SUE & THE HOT DOTS (Facebook ) charm us on their album „A Coffee & A Cigarette“, which will be released on 26.02.2021. It is by fact no metal, but I had and have with this album a huge fun. It is simply exciting! The music has truly lost nothing of its fascination.

Hot stuff

The music simply sweeps you along with the first notes and doesn’t let you go for 34 minutes. The cheeky voice of singer Betty, which also sometimes comes across dirty and sexy, fits perfectly to the sound. Her male instrumental accompaniment do a great job and complete the overall picture. It is heated up nicely. The air burns, the soles glow and the floor catches fire. So first of all the video of the song „Try To Forget You“ is recommended. I can’t blame anyone who stops reading the review straight away to listen to the song again and again. It’s just too beautiful!

Cool and lively

Okay, I would write a little bit more for those who want to read the review to the end . There are 12 songs full of coolness and effervescence that do not leave you cold. Quite the opposite. They make your Rock’n Roll heart beat faster and jump up and down with happiness. The casual song „If I Go To Hell“ is no exception. It is the

pure authentic sound

that is able to captivate the listener without any frills. This classic huge bass alone is not only a visual eye-catcher, but also enchants with its very own unmistakable sound. The vibrations simply go through and through. Guitar and drums are also excellently handled and create the right mood and complete the typical sound. (I could, however, imagine the additional use of wind instruments (e.g. saxophone) here and there. But that’s just a small side note and suggestion on my part).

Highlights

are many on the album. Eight original songs and four cover versions making up the set. The band manages to let off steam creatively and breathe soul into the songs. Each song has its own charm. Most of the songs are snappy, some even snappier and even a cool cheeky ballad in the form of „The Girl You’re Dreaming Of“ has crept in and flatters the ears.

And with the song „Dance“, one of my favorites on the album, I was even immediately reminded of ZZ TOP with their song „La Crange“. A crazy track, which also inspires with a really cool slapped bass solo.

Result

BETTY SUE & THE HOT DOTS deliver a rock’n roll firework in rockabilly style that makes the hut burn and the heart jump up and down with a permanent grin. The music is definitely no decaffeinated cold coffee brew, but hot espresso. There is a lot of energy in the music. No listener will sit still. I am carried away by the music and I am totally thrilled. I am very excited to see what other great songs this band with the potential will deliver to us.
