Phil Campbell als ehemaliger Gitarrist von Motörhead hatte seinerzeit ein Familienprojekt ins Leben gerufen und es später PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS (Facebook) genannt. Sehr cooler Bandname! Mittlerweile sind sie zu einer festen Größe herangewachsen. Phil und seine Söhne Todd, Tyla und Dane rocken gemeinsam an der instrumentalen Front. Der erste Sänger war Neil Starr und wurde nun durch Joel Peters abgelöst. Im direkten Vergleich klingt Joel ne Spur schmutziger, was dem Sound der Band meiner bescheidenen Meinung nach zu Gute kommt.

Wir freuen uns sehr, endlich unser drittes Album „Kings Of The Asylum“ und das erste mit dem neuen Sänger Joel Peters zu veröffentlichen! Wir hatten viel Spaß beim Dreh des Musikvideos für unsere neue Single „Strike The Match“ mit unserem Bastard Crew Fan Club in unserem Lieblingsrockclub Fuel in Cardiff. Spielt es laut und stolz!

Und genau das ist das richtige Motto, um die Musik zu genießen. Das ist purer Rock ’n‘ Roll ohne Firlefanz! Einfach und direkt! Mehr braucht es nicht, um grandios unterhalten zu können. Keine Frage, dass die Band das einwandfrei umsetzt. Daran wird doch wohl niemand Zweifel haben, oder doch? Nun, dann sollten sich die Zweifler umgehend die Single „Strike The Match“ reinziehen. Aber macht schon mal Eure Gliedmaßen geschmeidig, denn der Sound wird Euch garantiert zum zucken bringen oder mehr. Die Luftgitarre sollte auch nicht zu weit weg stehen 😉

Ein ganzes Album guter Laune

Meine Vorlieben in Sachen Rock und Metal sind sehr vielfältig. Und doch begeistern mich nach wie vor Bands, die ganz klassischen Rock ’n‘ Roll zelebrieren. Wenn es dann noch so perfekt wie bei PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS präsentiert wird, dann bin ich sofort verliebt. Jede coole Party kann alleine mit solchen Songs gerockt werden. Und wer es gerne ein wenig härter und schneller mag, der wird „Hammer And Dance“ total ausrasten. Hier gibt es richtig vor den Ballon! Viel spaß!

Der Titeltrack „Kings Of The Asylum“

präsentiert sich dann entspannter und könnte im Vergleich zu den restlichen Bangern als Power Ballade durchgehen. Die Hooks sind tadellos und hier kann Joel deutlich zeigen, was er für gesangliche Qualitäten besitzt. Dieser Song lebt nämlich auch von seiner kraftvollen Stimme, die mit einer guten Portion Dreck daherkommt. Die geniale Gitarrenarbeit ist ein durchgehendes prägendes Merkmal auf dem Album. So viele geile Riffs, Leads und Solos gehen hier Hand in Hand.

Die Bandbreite reicht von flotten lockeren Songs ( z.B. „Strike The Match“, „Show No Mercy“, „Ghosts“) bis hin zu knackig harten Bangern (z.B. „The Hunt“, „Hammer And Dance“, „Too Much Is Never Enough“).

Fazit

Ich würde mal sagen, dass die Band im Vergleich zu den letzten beiden Alben deutlich härter und energiegeladener zu Werke geht. Es scheint, dass man mit dem neuen Sänger am Sound geschraubt hat und neue Möglichkeiten der musikalischen Entfaltung ausprobiert hat. PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS haben dem Sound sozusagen ne Nitro-Einspritzung verpasst. Fehlzündungen kann ich hier keine feststellen. Denn „Kings Of The Asylum“ geht ausnahmslos in die Vollen und bietet dabei ein top ausgearbeitetes Programm an fantastischen Songs Auch wenn die letzten beiden Alben schon gut waren, ist „Kings Of The Asylum“ für mich eine starke Steigerung.

Das Album „Kings Of The Asylum“ hat Eier! Es brennt für den heißen old school Rock ’n‘ Roll! Wer da nicht mitgerissen wird, der liegt schon unter der Erde. Aber auch das dürfte nicht ausreichen. Denn für den Sound steigen sogar noch die Toten aus den Gräbern und lassen ihre blanken Knochen klappern und rocken. Super Album!

Phil Campbell as the former guitarist of Motörhead had started a family project at that time and later called it PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS (Facebook). The bandname sounds so cool! In the meantime they made a strong career and are well known as a damn good live act. Phil and his sons Todd, Tyla and Dane are the guys on the instruments. The first singer was Neil Starr and has now been replaced by Joel Peters. In direct comparison Joel sounds a bit dirtier, which in my humble opinion benefits the sound of the band.

We are very happy to finally reveal our third album “Kings Of The Asylum” and first with new vocalist Joel Peters is out now! We had great fun filming the music video for our new single “Strike The Match” with our Bastard Crew Fan Club at our favourite rock club, Fuel in Cardiff. Play it loud and proud!

And that is exactly the right slogan to enjoy the music. This is pure Rock ’n‘ Roll without frippery! Simple and direct! That’s all it takes to entertain grandiosely and the band does it flawlessly. Nobody will have any doubts about that I think. Well, if there are some doubters, they should immediately check out the single „Strike The Match“. Nobody will be able to sit still while listening to this. The air guitar should also not be too far away 😉

A big party

My preferences in Rock and Metal are very diverse. But I’m still inspired by bands that celebrate classic Rock ’n‘ Roll. When it’s presented as perfectly as PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS, I’m instantly in love. Any cool party can be rocked with such songs. And if you like it a little harder and faster, „Hammer And Dance“ will totally freak you out. This music gets you by the balls! Have fun!

Titletrack „Kings Of The Asylum“

is more relaxed and could pass as a power ballad compared to the rest of the bangers. The hooks are impeccable and here Joel can clearly show what a great singer he is. This song lives namely also from his powerful voice, which inbetween comes along with a good dirty attitude. The ingenious guitar work is a continuous defining feature on the album. So many awesome riffs, leads and solos go hand in hand here.

The range goes from snappy loose songs ( e.g. „Strike The Match“, „Show No Mercy“, „Ghosts“) to crunchy hard bangers (e.g. „The Hunt“, „Hammer And Dance“, „Too Much Is Never Enough“).

Conclusion

I would say that the band is much harder and more energetic compared to the last two albums. It seems that with the new singer they have screwed on the sound and tried out new possibilities of musical development. PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS have given the sound a nitro injection, so to speak. I can’t detect any misfires here. Because „Kings Of The Asylum“ inspires without exception and offers a top elaborated election of fantastic songs Even if the last two albums were already good, „Kings Of The Asylum“ is for me a strong increase.

The album „Kings Of The Asylum“ has balls! It burns for the hot old school Rock ’n‘ Roll! Who is not carried away, is already under the earth. But even that should not be enough. Because for that sound even the dead rise from the graves and let their bare bones rattle and rock. Great album!
