TEMPLE BALLS (Facebook/Homepage) aus Finnland waren mir bis dato nicht bekannt. Umso mehr freue ich mich, dass mir diese Band zum Ende des Jahres mit ihrem neuen Album „Avalanche“ noch zu Ohren gekommen ist. Und ich hätte nicht erwartet, dass ich gerade aus Finnland mit einem der heißesten Hardrock-Alben des Jahres verwöhnt werde. „Avalanche“ bedeutet übrigens übersetzt „Lawine“. Und das passt irgendwie auch, denn euch wird eine Lawine von geilen Songs mitreißen.

Das Cover ist eigentlich schön gelungen. Ich persönlich verbinde aber so ein Motiv nicht mit Hardrock, der hier geboten wird, sondern eher mit Power Metal. Aber das nur nebenbei…

Hier geht’s rund!

Die erste Singleauskopplung „Strike Like A Cobra“ verdeutlicht direkt, worum es beim Sound von TEMPLE BALLS geht, nämlich ganz klassischen fetzigen Hardrock. Die Band zaubert mit schönen Hooks und geilen Mitsing-Refrains eine Mischung zusammen, in die man sich nur verlieben kann. Man muss nicht viel nachdenken, denn die Musik dockt direkt an die Gute-Laune-Rezeptoren an, welche dann eine Flut von Glückshormonen produzieren. So fühlt man sich direkt wohl und verfällt in Party-Stimmung.

Gute-Laune-Bombe

Der Opener „All Night Long“ als Gute-Laune-Bombe pulverisiert sofort jegliche schlechte Stimmung. Sofort fällt mir auch die megafette Produktion auf, die dem Sound eine starke Durchschlagskraft schenkt. Hier ist alles perfekt abgemischt und es knallt gewaltig. Zu meiner persönlichen Freude lässt man den knackigen Bass von Jimi Välikangas immer schön durchwummern. Die Drums (Antti Hissa) bringen Leben ins Spiel und die Gitarren (Jiri Paavonaho & Niko Vuorela) sind elektrisierend, vor allem auch was die Solos angeht. Da fliegen wirklich die Funken. Sänger Arde Teronen ist eine Koryphäe mit einer Wahnsinnsstimme. Man könnte sich für diese Musik keine bessere wünschen. Auch der mehrstimmige Chorus sitzt bei jedem Song und lädt zum Mitgrölen ein. Der zweite Song auf dem Album heiß „Trap“ und beschleunigt das Tempo.

„Stone Called Bones“ hätte die Bezeichnung Ballade bei dieser Tracklist wohl am ehesten verdient, hält den Schmalzlevel aber glücklicherweise recht niedrig, so dass auch dieser Song voll klar geht. Insgesamt geht man auf dem Album keine Wagnisse ein. Ich persönlich hätte mir aber noch ein wenig mehr Extravaganz gewünscht, um dem Ganzen noch eine besondere individuelle Note aufzusetzen. So reiten die Songs allesamt auf der gleichen musikalischen Welle, vollziehen dabei aber trotzdem beachtliche Kunststücke, die für starke Unterhaltung sorgen und in keinem Moment Langeweile aufkommen lassen.

„No Reason“ löst bei mir sogar Def Leppard-Feelings aus und das ist ja wahrlich nichts schlechtes. Der Bass rumpelt schön fett daher und Gittarist Niko Vuorela shreddert sich beim Solo dermaßen einen ab, dass es nur so brennt.

Fazit

TEMPLE BALLS sorgen mit „Avalanche“ für ein wahres Hardrock Highlight im Jahr 2023. Mit klassischen Zutaten (aus den 80’er Jahren) zaubern die Meister von TEMPLE BALLS eine exquisite Rockmischung, die süchtig macht. Es ist diese Art Album, das man von vorne bis hinten verschlingt und gleich noch mal von vorne beginnt. Diese mitreißende Rock’n’Roll-Musik ist wie geschaffen für Partys!

TEMPLE BALLS (Facebook/Homepage) from Finland were unknown to me until now. So I’m all the more pleased that I was able to hear this band at the end of the year with their new album „Avalanche“. And I didn’t expect to be treated to one of the hottest hard rock albums this year from Finland. The album title „Avalanche“ somehow fits, because you will be swept away by an avalanche of great songs.

The cover artwork is actually well done. Personally, however, I don’t associate such a motif with hard rock, but rather with power metal. But that’s just by the way…

Great sound!

„Strike Like A Cobra“as the first single makes it immediately clear what the sound of TEMPLE BALLS is all about, namely classic groovy hard rock. The band conjures up a mixture of beautiful hooks and great choruses that you fall in love with. The music taps directly into your good mood receptors, which then produce a flood of happiness hormones. This makes you feel good straight away and puts you in a party mode.

Energetic bomb

The opener „All Night Long“ is a good mood bomb that immediately pulverizes any bad mood. I immediately notice the mega-fat production, which gives the sound a strong punch. Everything is mixed perfectly here and it bangs like crazy. To my personal delight, Jimi Välikangas‘ crisp bass is always booming through. The drums (Antti Hissa) bring life into the game and the guitars (Jiri Paavonaho & Niko Vuorela) are electrifying, especially when it comes to the solos. The sparks really fly. Singer Arde Teronen is a luminary with an insane voice. You couldn’t wish for a better one. The polyphonic chorus is also perfect for every song and invites you to sing along. The second song on the album is called „Trap“ and speeds up the tempo.

„Stone Called Bones“ probably deserves to be called a ballad in this track list, but fortunately keeps the cheesy level quite low, so that this song is also a good one. Overall, the album doesn’t take any risks. Personally, however, I would have liked a little more extravagance to give the whole thing more special individual touch. As it is, the songs all ride the same musical wave, but still perform remarkable feats that provide great entertainment.

„No Reason“ even gives me Def Leppard feelings and that’s not a bad thing at all. The bass rumbles along nice and fat and guitarist Niko Vuorela shreds a damn hard solo. That’s hot fire!

Conclusion

With „Avalanche“, TEMPLE BALLS provide a true hard rock highlight in 2023. With classic ingredients from the 80’s, TEMPLE BALLS conjure up an exquisite rock mixture that is addictive. It’s the kind of album that you devour from start to finish and then start all over again. It’s great fun! This rousing rock ’n‘ roll music is made for parties!
