möchte uns der Künstler WAX MEKANIX (Facebook ) mit seinem Album „Mobocracy“ einimpfen.

„Wer zum Teufel ist WAX MEKANIX?“

werdet ihr Euch sicherlich fragen. So erging es mir auch! Der Name klingt irgendwie cool. Jedenfalls ist er kein neuer Einwohner im gallischen Dorf bei Asterix & Obelix.

Er ist ein Selfmademan aus Philadelphia in den USA, der schon auf jahrzehntelange Erfahrung in der Musikbranche zurückblicken kann. Er war damals Gründungsmitglied der US-Metal-Band NITRO, die damals 1979 eine Antwort der Amerikaner auf die NWOBHM-Entwicklung war. Jetzt bitte nicht mit der Haarwunder-Glam-Rock-Kombo verwechseln, die 1987 gegründet wurde und bei MTV rauf und runtergespielt wurde.

WAX hat sich voll und ganz der Musik hingegeben. Als Multi-Instrumentalist fungiert er auch als Songschreiber und Produzent. Er ist ein ziemlich smarter, cooler und verrückter Typ und genauso klingt seine EP „Mobocracy“ auch.

Ein wahres Überraschungsfeuerwerk

von 6 Songs, bei denen WAX sich offenbar nach Lust und Laune aus ausgetobt hat. Herausgekommen ist ein bunter Mix aus verschiedenen Bereichen des Rock. Hauptsache es rockt und geht ins Blut!

Das Feuer brennt noch in WAX!

Und so fackelt er ein tolles leuchtendes Rockfeuerwerk ab, dass bildlich gesprochen mit buntgemischten Raketen begeistert. Jeder Song ist anders und doch bilden sie ein stimmiges Gesamtwerk.

Einen fulminanten Start

legt der Song „Blood In My Eyes“ hin. Ein sehr grooviger Rocker, der verdammt viel zu bieten hat und der krasse Vibes versprüht. Dazu tragen die unterschiedlichen Melodiestrukturen und Gesangslinien bei, die toll miteinander harmonieren und Abwechslung bieten. Ein amtliches Gitarrensolo darf natürlich nicht fehlen. Verdammt guter Song!

„Victorious“ als imposanter Midtempo-Stampfer lässt es ebenfalls schön krachen und imponiert mit bezaubernden Melodien und knackigen Rhythmen, die den Hörer aufrütteln und mitgehen lassen. Ein wahre Hymne! Hierzu gibt es auch ein Video..

Eine verrückte Welt

ist es, auf der wir leben und „Mad World“ ist ein Abgesang auf diese. Dabei fährt WAX wieder die härtere Rockschiene und der Musiktitel spiegelt sich in dem Song wieder. Packende Riffs fetzen durch durchs Gehör. „Mad World“ fängt schon irre an und im Verlauf erinnert mich der Gesang an die crazy verrückte Art von Alice Cooper und könnte auch locker auf einer seiner Platten begeistern. Ein energiegeladener schmutziger Rocksong mit allem, was es braucht. Das Gitarrensolo hat mich auch hier wieder völlig mitgerissen.

Ein Portion Folk bitteschön

Und da ist sie auch schon in Form von „All Freaks“. Eine locker-leichte Rocknummer, die sich vor allem einen Platz in den Herzen der Countryliebhaber erspielen dürfte. „All Freaks“ bleibt aber ohne wenn und aber ein flotter Rocksong, der einfach gute Laune produziert.

Die dunkle Ballade „Black“ als Schlusstrack hat es mir irgendwie besonders angetan. „Black“ ist weniger pompös, verkörpert aber eine fantastische Atmosphäre und ist gespickt mit liebevollen Details, die dem Song trotz der insgesamt dunkleren Stimmung verschiedene Facetten schenken. Ein ergreifender Song, dem vor allem auch durch den hervorragenden Gesang von WAX Leben und Seele eingehaucht wird.

Fazit

WAX MEKANIX ist ein alter Haudegen, aber gehört noch lange nicht zum alten Eisen. Der Mann hat Feuer und brennt vor Kreativität. Die Songs sind alle handwerklich erste Sahne und einwandfrei produziert. Es passiert viel in den sechs Songs von „Mobocracy“ und jeder Song hat seinen eigenen Charme. WAX ist auf jeden Fall für Überraschungen gut und wir dürfen gespannt sein, was er in Zukunft noch auf die Beine stellt. Die Chancen stehen gut, dass wir dieses Jahr noch ein neues Album von ihm hören werden. In seiner Musik finden sich viele musikalische Einflüsse, die man mit namenhaften Bands in Verbindung bringen könnte. Außer der o.g. Anspielung auf Alice Cooper möchte ich aber keine weiteren nennen, denn

Hardrock is what the artist WAX MEKANIX (Facebook ) wants to instill in us with his album „Mobocracy“.

Who the fuck is WAX MEKANIX?

you will surely ask yourselves. That’s what happened to me! The name sounds somehow cool. Anyway, WAX MEKANIX is not a new inhabitant of the Gallic village in Asterix & Obelix.

He is a self-made man from Philadelphia in the USA, who can already look back on decades of experience in the music industry. He was a founding member of the US metal band NITRO back in 1979, which was an answer of the Americans to the NWOBHM development. Now please don’t confuse them with the hair-wonder-glam-rock-combo that was formed in 1987 and played up and down on MTV.

WAX has given himself fully to music. As a multi-instrumentalist, he also acts as a songwriter and producer. He’s a pretty smart, cool and crazy guy and that’s exactly what his EP „Mobocracy“ sounds like.

A real firework of surprises

of six songs, in which WAX has obviously gone wild. The result is a colorful mix of different rock areas and the main thing is: Rock from the bottom of the heart!

The fire still burns in WAX!

And so he torches a great shining rock fireworks, that figuratively speaking inspires with colorful mixed rockets. Each song is different and yet they form a coherent whole.

A flying start

is the song „Blood In My Eyes“. A very groovy rocker, which has a lot to offer and radiates crass vibes. I like the different melodies and vocals that harmonize great with each other. A rock guitar solo may not be missing, of course. Damn good song!

„Victorious“ as an imposing stomping midtempo song also crashes nicely and impresses with beautiful melodies. A real hymn! There is also a video for this…

A mad world

is what we live on and „Mad World“ is the song about it. WAX drives the harder rock line and the music title is reflected in the song. Gripping riffs shred through your ears. The vocals remind me of the crazy style of Alice Cooper and could also loosely inspire on one of his records. An energetic dirty rock song with everything going for it. The guitar solo has me again completely blown away.

A portion of folk please

And there it is in the form of „All Freaks“. An easy-going rock song that should win a place in the hearts of country music lovers. But „All Freaks“ remains without a doubt a snappy rock song that simply makes your heart smile.

The dark ballad „Black“ as the closing track has somehow done it to me especially. „Black“ is less pompous, but embodies a fantastic atmosphere and is peppered with loving details that give the song different facets despite the overall darker mood. A poignant song that is given life and soul mainly by WAX’s excellent vocals.

Result

WAX MEKANIX is an old warhorse, but is far from being old iron. The man has fire and burns with creativity. The songs are all first-class craftsmanship and flawlessly produced. There is a lot happening in the six songs of „Mobocracy“ and each song has its own charm. WAX is definitely good for surprises and we can be curious what he will come up with in the future. Chances are good that we will hear a new album from him this year. In his music you can find a lot of musical influences that you could associate with famous bands. Apart from the above-mentioned allusion to Alice Cooper I don’t want to mention any others, because

WAX MEKANIX is a real original!
