Nine Inch Nails – Neue Musik am 23.12.2016

Trent Reznor verkündet kurz vor Weihnachten, dass es neue Musik von den Nine Inch Nails geben wird. Am 23.12.2016 veröffentlicht die Band die neue Scheibe „Not The Actual Events“. Die EP wird es (zunächst) nur als MP3 oder Vinyl unter store.nin.com/collections/music zu kaufen geben. Ob die EP auch im Einzelhandel erhältlich sein wird, bleibt abzuwarten, da es sich um ein Self-Release handelt.

In einem Statement zur EP sagt die Band:

The EP finds Reznor and now official bandmate Atticus Ross taking an unexpected left turn from 2013’s Hesitation Marks and sounding unrecognizable from their current film work.

Was auffällt, Atticus Ross ist ab sofort ein offizielles Mitglied der Band. Vorher bestand die Gruppe nur aus dem Mastermind Reznor. Der Frontmann sagt zu der neuen CD:

It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.

Das war jedoch noch nicht alles, was im Zuge der Ankündigung zu der neuen Veröffentlichung bekannt gegeben worden ist. In den nächsten Monaten sollen sämtliche NIN-Platten aus der Vergangenheit auf Vinyl wiederveröffentlicht werden. Das Herzstück bildet „The Fragile: Deviations 1“ welches gleich auf 4x Vinyl veröffentlicht wird. Trent sagte zu dieser Platte:

The Fragile occupies a very interesting and intimate place in my heart. I was going through a turbulent time in my life when making it and revisiting it has become a form of therapy for me. As an experiment, I removed all the vocals from the record and found it became a truly changed experience that worked on a different yet compelling level. The Fragile: Deviations 1 represents Atticus and I embellishing the original record with a number of tracks from those sessions we didn’t use before. The result paints a complimentary but different picture we wanted to share.
