STILVERLIGHT „Dead Souls“ Review

STILVERLIGHT (Facebook) war ebenfalls eine Entdeckung im Rahmen meiner Songsuche für unsere Playlist ‚METALHEADs new stuff‘, wo ich täglich auch neue Bands entdecke, von denen ich vorher noch nie was gehört habe. In diesem Fall war es der Song „World In Flames“, mit dem mich STILVERLIGHT total abgeholt haben. Für mich einer der besten Songs des Jahres 2024. Wie kann am den Sound von STILVERLIGHT beschreiben? Obwohl der Song „World In Flames“ sehr straight voll in die Fresse geht, muss man einfach sagen, dass sich viele verschiedene Stile aus der Metalwelt in dem Song vereinen. Auch die Bezeichnung progressiver Metal wäre hier nicht fehl am Platze.

Der Sound hat alles, was ich mir wünsche. Er hat mächtig Power, gnadenlosen Speed und geile Melodien. Zu Beginn thrashen STILVERLIGHT erst einmal alles in Grund und Boden, wobei hier auch schon durch klangvolle Gitarrenleads melodische Power Metal Ansätze einfließen. Bei dem Song geht so was von die Lutzi ab. Der böse brutale Bass sorgt für einen schweren Groove. Die Drums sind dabei unter Dauerfeuer. Die Gitarren fetzen sich mit maximaler Energie durch den Song und beim Gesang gibt es auch keine Kompromisse. Mit gehörig Power und abwechslungsreichen Gesangslinien und Gesangsformen geht es zur Sache. Ein technisch durchaus anspruchsvoller Song. Der harte melodische packende Power Metal gemixt mit durchschlagenden Extreme Metal Elementen trifft genau meinen Geschmack. Hammermäßig!

STILVERLIGHT setzen auf vielseitige Power!

So ganz hat es mich dann tatsächlich auch nicht überrascht, dass STILVERLIGHT in ihrem Soundkonzept sogar teilweise symphonische Elemente einbauen, so wie beispielsweise beim Song „All You Need Is Fear“. Dieser geht über ein üppige Spielzeit von sieben Minuten, langweilt aber in keinem Moment. Ganz im Gegenteil! STILVERLIGHT sind in der Lage großartige Songs zu schreiben und mit so viel Leben zu füllen, dass sie höchst kurzweilige Unterhaltung garantieren. Als Beispiel sei bei dem Song der Instrumentalpart ab Minute 05:20 genannt, den ich sehr gelungen finde, inklusive dem Übergang in den nächsten Songpart.

Es gibt zwei Songs, die mich nicht ganz so sehr begeistern. Da wären das harmlose „Why You Hate“ und das schon fast fröhlich anmutende „Happy End Tragedy“. Beide Songs verbleiben in der leichten melodischen Schiene und sind in ihrer Struktur recht einfach und unaufregend gehalten. Es mag jetzt Geschmacksache sein, aber mit den Übersongs auf dem Album können diese nicht mithalten. „Burn Me“ als echt starke Power Ballade trifft bei mir jedoch wieder voll ins Schwarze. Wuchtig, aber mit viel Gefühl! Das höre ich mir gerne an, zumal es am Ende noch ne handfeste Überraschung gibt.

„First Page Of The Final Chapter“ macht in seiner Ausdehnung dem Song „All You Need Is Fear“ Konkurrenz. Hier bedient man sich ebenso symphonischer Elemente. Nach sphärischem Beginn lässt man die Power Metal Peitsche knallen und die Kutsche prescht voran. Bei „Vaccum“ nimmt dir der krasse Bass fast die Luft zum atmen. Der Song baut sich dann aber langsam auf und wird zu einem kraftvollen epischen Abenteuer mit einer sehr schönen Gesangsführung. Das Konzept ist wieder einmal imposant ausgearbeitet und bringt eine gehörige Groove Metal Komponente mit rein.

Fazit

STILVERLIGHT ist mit „Dead Souls“ ein wahnsinnig starkes Album gelungen. Ihr individuelle Mischung ist sehr interessant und imposant, wobei man auf einem hohen Niveau agiert. Die Band hat riesiges Potential, was sie auch einzusetzen weiß. STILVERLIGHT treten mit einem kraftvollen wuchtigen Sound auf, aber sie begeistern ebenso auch mit vielen schönen Melodien und anderen geilen Ideen. Es gibt eine Menge Top-Material auf dem Album, was einen förmlich aus den Latschen haut.

STILVERLIGHT (Facebook) was also a discovery during my song search for our ‚METALHEADs new stuff‘ playlist, where I discover new bands every day that I’ve never heard of before. In this case, it was the song „World In Flames“, with which STILVERLIGHT totally picked me up. For me, it was one of the best songs of 2024. How can you describe the sound of STILVERLIGHT? Although the song „World In Flames“ is very hard hitting punch in your face, you just have to say that many different styles from the metal world are united in the song. Even the term progressive metal would not be out of place here.

The sound has everything I could wish for. It has a lot of power, merciless speed and great melodies. At the beginning, STILVERLIGHT thrash the shit out of everything, with melodic power metal approaches flowing in through sonorous guitar leads. This song is a real blast. The evil, brutal bass provides a heavy groove. The drums are under constant fire. The guitars shred their way through the song with maximum energy and there are no compromises when it comes to the vocals. They get down to business with plenty of power and varied vocal lines and forms. A technically demanding song. The hard melodic gripping power metal mixed with resounding extreme metal elements is exactly to my taste. Awesome!

STILVERLIGHT rely on versatile power!

However, I was a little surprised that STILVERLIGHT even incorporate some symphonic elements into their sound concept, such as in the song „All You Need Is Fear“. It has a generous playing time of seven minutes, but never bores at any point. Quite the opposite! STILVERLIGHT are able to write great songs and fill them with so much life that they guarantee a great experience. An example of this is the instrumental part of the song from minute 05:20, which I find very successful, including the transition into the next song part.

There are two songs that don’t quite excite me as much. There’s the harmless „Why You Hate“ and the almost cheerful „Happy End Tragedy“. Both songs remain on the light melodic track and are quite simple and unexciting in their structure. It may be a matter of taste, but in my opinion they can’t keep up with the top songs on the album. However, „Burn Me“, a really strong power ballad, hits the bull’s eye for me again. Powerful, but with a lot of feeling! I like listening to it, especially as there’s a real hard surprise at the end.

„First Page Of The Final Chapter“ rivals the song „All You Need Is Fear“ in its expansiveness. Symphonic elements are also used here. After an atmospheric start, the power metal whip is cracked and the carriage drives off. In „Vaccum“, the blatant bass almost takes your breath away. However, the song then slowly builds up and becomes a powerful epic adventure with very beautiful vocals. The concept is once again impressively worked out and brings in a proper groove metal component.

Conclusion

STILVERLIGHT have succeeded in creating an incredibly strong album with ‘Dead Souls’. Their individual mix is very interesting and impressive, and they perform at a high level. The band has huge potential, which they know how to utilise. STILVERLIGHT perform with a powerful, massive sound, but they can also inspire with many beautiful melodies and other great ideas. There is a lot of top material on the album that literally knocks your socks off.
